Dune de Pyla

Louis on top of the dune (and dad), overlooking La forĂȘt des Landes,
a massive maritime pine forest preserve.
The dune is more than 350 feet tall and more than 1.5 miles long.
It is the tallest sand dune in Europe.

David and Louis burying each other.

This is one of 15,000 bunkers built by the Germans between 1942 and 1944
as part of the Atlantic Wall, a guard against allied attack from the west.
There are several at the base of the dune that have shifted position
over time.

Rocks along the shoreline.

The Atlantic ocean at the base of the Dune, just south
of the Bay of Arcachon.
